The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has fired the Acting Director-General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Mrs Francisca Ashietey-Odunton for putting out a false death story on former South Africa president Thabo Mbeki which was carried in a news bulletin on Ghana Television (GTV).
In a statement signed by the Chief of Staff, Mr. Julius Debrah which was addressed to Mrs Ashietey-Odunton and intercepted by our reporter stated that, the Presidency and Ghanaians for that matter could not tolerate why a whole state-owned television station could turn into Satire TV.
The statement also banned the acting GBC boss from tuning into the station for a period of 5 years.
According to GBC, Thabo Mbeki who is currently in Ethiopia brokering a peace deal for belligerents in Sudan was pronounced dead on arrival at an unnamed hospital on Wednesday after a short illness.
