RIO 2016: Gold for Thailand’s Sinphet Kruaithong after Disqualifications

Thailand’s Olympic team have received a major boost in their medal haul at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games as Sinphet Kruaithong who placed 3rd in the men’s 56kg weightlifting has been announced as the new winner of the contest by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

This was after Qingquan Long of China and Chol Yun Om of the People’s Republic of Korea who won Gold and Silver respectively were disqualified by the IOC for irregularities. The IOC has named the Thai as the winner whiles Arli Chontey of Kazastan and Quoc Toan Le Tran of Vietnam have also been awarded the Silver and Bronze medals.

The IOC said they would release the full report on the investigations that led to the disqualification later this week.
