President Rodrigo Duterte of Philippines has been described as the bravest leader the world has ever had by many world leaders, political pundits and historians. He will become the first world leader to visit space ever since the first mission to space in 1957 by the Soviet Union.
Japan’s national aero-space agency, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) invited President Duterte to join their for a space mission next January. The invitation was extended during the president’s state visit to Japan last week.
It is now left with the president to accept the invitation for the 5 day trip which they said has been declined by tough talking presidents like Vladmir Putin of Russia, Former Libyan Leader Muammar Gadhafi.
Through the merger of three previously independent organizations, JAXA was formed on 1 October 2003. JAXA is responsible for research, technology development and the launch of satellites into orbit, and is involved in many more advanced missions, such as asteroid exploration and possible manned exploration of the Moon.
Will President Rodrigo Duterte be able to take up the challenge? Only time will tell.
